Choosing a quarantine facility
« on: July 19, 2009, 02:54:47 pm »
Hello again all. Anyone with personal experience of either of these two facilities please let us know of the good / bad / downright ugly. We have to choose a place for our Jack Russell to be confined in and we have told him we're looking for a good hotel for him. He seems a bit concerned at this point so we told him we'd ask on the website and get your dog's reviews.
Apparently the only two available are:
1. Qualified Pet Services in Takanini, Auckland,
and
2. Pethaven Quarantine Services in Pokeno, Auckland.

Thanks all.
Darryll
If you can't get rid of the skeleton in your closet, better you take it out and teach it to dance.

I originally tried to get my 2 sausage dogs into Pet Haven but they were fully booked so they stayed at Qualified Pets instead. I was really happy with the service and the staff were great and went out of their way to accomodate any worries I had about the dogs being cold etc.
If you are going to be staying in Auckland I would consider QPS as Pokeno is a good 30km south of where QPS is and you have to add that on to your journey every time you go to visit. We used to drive an hour and a half every weekend to see ours and I wished we could go more often.  The only bad part about the exerience was that they had to stay there for that amount of time and the cost of course but worth it to us in the end. My two dogs were very pampered  and had never been to kennels before this but came out the other end fine. :gl:

Hi,
There is also one close to Wellington in a dorpie called Levin.
But if you are close to Auckland Pet Haven is a better choice in my books.
wishing  you and the canine family everything of the best.

My moms little spca special brak also went to QPS in Auckland. They were a fantastic bunch and we could see her as often as we liked. The only thing to be aware of is she came out of her "hotel" around 3kgs heavier! But with all the dog parks and walks we do here she has lost weight and looks like a new dog....

Our cat went to QPS.  He was well looked after there and also give him treats - even tuna because he liked it unfortunatley he pigged out and then got sick so they stopped that.  The staff were friendly everytime we were there.  Our cat also came out overweight but lost it pretty quick after that.  The only noticable difference afterwards was he really really didnt like going to the vet and actually growled when he went for injections or checkups.
